I decided to try out the social bookmarking sites that have been "all the rage" lately, well more like 5 months back. After looking at about 5-10 of them, including the most popular one - - I decided to settle on BlinkList. It has one of the more visual pleasing and cleaner UIs out there. Most of the other sites seemed to be mostly text based.

You might asking what is a social bookmarking site and why would you use it? Well, the simple answer is bookmarking management. It helps me classify sites that I'm interested in by associating keywords to it, also known as tagging. Since I can add multiple tags to a URL, I have the flexibility to classify it against different topics compared to having a folder system. With a folder system, the url can be placed in only one folder.

So, what about the "social" part? The social aspect is that it allows me to share my bookmarks with the rest of the world. More exactly, to share interesting sites that I find with friends and family.

This is the link directly to the site.

This is a link to sites that I have tagged as interesting. These are probably the top notch sites that I consider latest and greatest, bleeding edge stuff and all that jazz.
Sites that are interesting.

To the right, under links, there is a list of the top 30 tags that have been associated in my blinklist.

Very Zcary

I was playing with a new website today called Zillow. And I definitely want to say WOW!. It very powerful in what it can do. By typing in an address, Zillow will an estimate of how much the property is worth, based on tax property records and other public information. It also shows prices for the neighbors as well so you can compare.

After looking up some addresses, it looks pretty accurate. Now people don't need to ask you how much you paid for your new house, they can just look it up via Zillow. I know that Maryland has an official website that you can view the whole state's real estate transactions. [Just can't remember what the url it.] So all this information that Zillow is using is public but just now available for a central website.

Glad it wasn't me

When I go into an museum or art gallery (yes, I occasionally go to them), I'm afraid that I would knock something over or damage something. So far nothing has happened.
[Knock on wood]

Unforunately, it isn't the case for this guy. Poor guy knocked over two Ming vases when he tripped over his shoelaces. Now he is banned from the museum indefinitely. I guess I will making sure my shoelaces are always tied when I'm in a museum.

Last Day......

Today is my last day of work. More or less I have been at the same company for almost 7 years. I have learned a lot of different skills, technical and nontechnical, during the course of my employment. I have met a lot of interesting people during this time. I also enjoyed the traveling especially to some great places such as San Juan, PR. But like all good things, it has to come to an end.

I decided that I need to focus on finishing up my Masters Degree on a full-time basis. It is the perfect time to do so as I have the energy and resources. I do hope that obtaining the degree will be worth it in the long run. The economy is definitely changing towards an outsourcing-based infrastructure. This will affect the type of opportunities that will be available.

During this time besides studying, I'm hoping to start/participate in some bleeding-edge projects. Definitely the Web 2.0 based websites look interesting. I hope to create a site or two to share.

To new things and challenges, here I come............................
