Trying new things...

It is quite interesting that few people are willing to try new things even if it risk free and actually would benefit them in the long run.

Case in point: I'm a member of the LinkedIn networking site. The "LinkedIn" idea is that most people find jobs and other opportunities from friends of friends. Therefore it is advantageous to invite your friends/business associates to the site and in turn they would invite their friends. Well recently, I got back on the bandwagon on grow my network on the site. So I sent out 11 invitations last week to various friends/ex-coworkers to get "LinkedIn". About a week has gone by and this has been the result:
1 - Accepted invitation. And in turn, within 5 days already got over 9 other people to join up.
1 - Sent me an AIM asking what LinkedIn was. I responded, but he still didn't join.
    9 - Still pending.

As well as 2 invitations that have been outstanding for over 1 1/2 years.

The rate of acceptance for the LinkedIn invitation was definitely thought provoking. It shows that people still fear the unknown and perhaps unwilling to explore/learn new things.
